Characteristics of the Border Collie
We are currently in the process of building our website. This will be the last page we complete because we won't have any Border Collie puppies for sale until Summer 2010. We have a new little boy (Gunner) that is out of imported parents. We are not going to have any new litters until he is ready. We know several very good breeders with great working stock if you would like us to give you a referral. Please feel free to call or e-mail us at any time and thank you for visiting our website. |
The Border Collie is an exceptionally intelligent dog that makes a great work companion as well as a wonderful family pet. They are so named, "Border" Collies because the breed originated around the border between England and Scotland. They were imported to the United States in the twentieth century and have since won the hearts of many sheep and cattle owners. They have also become extremely athletic competitors in dog sports like flyball, frisbee and agility meets.
They form a close bond with their human families and get along well with other pets and children. Being extaordinarily intelligent, they are very easy to train and want nothing more than your praise and affection when they do something right. They can be taught many different tricks and I would suggest you invest in a good tricks for dogs training book after you have accomplished basic obedience.
Although their work ethic and drive can seem intimidating, if you take the time to throw a frisbee or a ball for them every day, they begin to view this playtime as a form of work. Border Collies need a "job" to keep them out of mischief. That could be going on a daily run or working a herd of sheep or playing ball or frisbee for a short time each day. They just need to be assigned a "job" and be given the opportunity to do that job each day. |

All of our Border Collies are registered with the American Border Collie Association. Our focus in raising this wonderful breed is intelligence and working ability. We do not register them with AKC because we believe they are a working breed and that working ability, not conformation, should be the main breeding standard.
